Nationality markings (hereinafter: insignia) on Republic of China Air Force planes (ROCAF for short) began to be used from their very beginning in the 1920s. Very quickly, a white sun with the image of its 12 rays on a blue circular background began to appear on the hulls and wings of Chinese machines. It was a kind of roundelle of the Chinese air force. Of course, this insignia had its symbolism, because this stylized sun still has the most positive connotations in Asia, while the sun's rays in the number of 12 were supposed to symbolize progress. On the other hand, horizontal white and blue stripes appeared on the vertical fins of Chinese machines, the colors of which corresponded to the insignia presented earlier. It is worth adding that such designations of nationality were used both during the war with Japan in 1937-1945, and later by the Kuomintang air force during the Second Civil War (1946-1949). Twin similar insignia are currently in use by the Republic of China air force in Taiwan.
